Plum family (Rosaceae)

• Leaves ovate with a long pointed tip, toothed, up to 15cm (6in) long. Underside downy on the veins, stalk with 2 glands near the leaf.
• Twigs smooth and red
• Flowers white with 5 petals up to 1.5cm (3/5in) long, borne in long-stalked clusters of 2-6 (April).
• Fruits up to 2cm (4/5in) long with red-black skin and sweet-tasting or bitter flesh.
