The amount of red and black colouration varies among individuals (red, orange, black) as does the number of spots (0-21). The most common patterns in Britain are orange with 15-21 black spots and black with 2 or 4 orange or red spots. The amount of black on the pronotum also varies from multiple distinct spots to wholly black.
